About

About the artist:

My name is Ewa Ludwiczak and I am a professional watercolour painter and illustrator.

I was born in Nowa Sol, Poland in 1988.

My art education began in 2007 when I joined a small private art school in Germany and studied mostly classical pencil drawing.
I was accepted at the Kassel Art University (Kunsthochschule Kassel) but, since the school placed no importance on drawing and discouraged its students from learning any traditional skills, I decided to quit and continue to practise and work on my own.

This experience helped me realise what truly mattered to me as an artist.

After that I discovered instructional books by Charles Reid and instantly fell in love with his art, philosophy and wonderful, loose style. I couldn't have hoped for a better teacher to guide me through the process of watercolour painting.

My work is mostly figurative and I’m especially interested in psychological portraits of women and children and the female nude.

I never plan my paintings and much prefer the directness of the alla prima approach, where every single decision counts.

For this reason sketchbooks are a very important element of my work. I love the challenge of filling an entire book, page by page until it becomes a complete work of art in its own right.
